Medicine Jar

2020

This small collection of 3 pieces were started in March 2020, during the first wave of Covid-19 in the UK. Having recently attended the Horniman museum and seen equatorial medicine jars for the first time, I wanted to make an object in response to the cautionary meaning of the jars - don’t come near me.

Wondering around the abandoned Greenwich Estate on my daily walk, I saw young plants sprouting from cracks in the council block concrete, and the two inspirations merged for me. The Medicine Jar incorporates elements of nature fighting in the city and the social distancing instructions broadcast during the early pandemic.
