Dure
2020
Dure is a transitional piece in my making process. Dure marks the point at which I progressed from the exclusive creation of vessels to the exploration of sculptural forms. Comprising of a white stoneware clay, replacing terracotta, Dure allowed me to reach higher kiln temperatures, and developing glazes for a richer colour response.

The green glaze was developed from a 17th century roof tile glaze recipe found in the Watts Gallery archive, and belonged to the gallery founder, to Mary Watts. The founding artists George and Mary Watts were a part of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, and were both patrons of the Rossetti family.
