Cristoforo Collection

The Cristoforo collection is inspired by the artwork of the Italian Renaissance miniaturist Cristoforo De Predis. De Predis paintings of Biblical scenes are idealistic, allowing both emotion and tone to eclipse depictive accuracy. The painting ‘Death of the Sun, Moon and Stars Falling’ (circa 1460) inspired Aubrook to create ceramic vessels which belong within this broken landscape. The Cristoforo vessels are decorated with the debris of a fallen sky, collecting around the collars of each piece like ash. The shapes, informed by ecclesiastic symbology and individually hand sculpted, capture the energy and grace of falling.
Each vessel is made from British terracotta and finished with a majolica tin glaze. Cristoforo 1 has an additional yellow overcoat developed in response to the colourful style of the della Robia sculpture workshop of 15th century Florence.
