Cristoforo 6
Height: 24 cm
Width: 22 cm
Depth: 21 cm
Cristoforo 6 is the 6th vase made as part of the Cristoforo series. The series is inspired by the artwork of the Italian Renaissance miniaturist Cristoforo De Predis. De Predis’ paintings of Biblical scenes are idealistic, allowing both emotion and tone to eclipse depictive accuracy. The painting ‘Death of the Sun, Moon and Stars Falling’ (circa 1460) inspired me to create ceramic vessels which belong to this broken landscape. The Cristoforo vessels are decorated with the debris of a fallen sky, collecting around the collars of each piece like ash. The shapes, informed by ecclesiastic symbology and individually hand sculpted, capture the energy and grace of falling.
Cristoforo 6 is made from British terracotta and finished with a majolica tin glaze, iron burning through the finish in places toasting the edges of the forms.
